funforlife's roots go back to the recent civil war in former Yugoslavia. In 1993, in response to the war, our director Dragan Matijevic founded the children's charity Rise Phoenix. Together with many artists and performers Dragan has visited thousands of children in troubled areas of Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia and Kosovo. Their projects have ranged from intimate puppet shows to theatrical spectacles and large-scale giant puppet carnival street processions.
The projects were helped by celebrities like Emma Thompson, Dorris Lessing, Quentin Blake, Robson Green, Alan Plater, Alan Ayckbourn, David Hare, Desmond Morris, Esther Freud, Fay Maschler, Jan Pienklowski, Linus Roach Jerome Flynn, Annabelle Apsion, Adrian Rawlings... and in collaboration with international organisations such as The Red Cross, UNICEF, Save the Children, AfPiC, Balkan Sunflowers and many other organisations throughout Bosnia, Croatia and Kosovo.
In 2000 Dragan Matijevic and Mohammed Abdul-Razak founded funforlife theatre charity with a vision of bringing the holistic education (based on nurturing and development of emotional intelligence through our TUNE Model, as well as joys of theatre to the young around the world.
