Following the success of the FFL Winter project in Sri Lanka "New Moves" workshop director Kate E. Deeming facilitated 3 projects in Glasgow with the Sri Lankan community based there (3rd largest in the UK) which culminated in a dance performance, photography exhibition and film during Scottish Refugee Week (http://refugeeweekscotland.posterous.com/hope-for-refugees-immigrants-and-asda-boy) in June.
HOPE/is a thing with Feathers was a dance performance around themes of hope. The choreography was directly influenced by the work created in Trincomalee and Batticaloa in January/February 2010 and re-interpretted by Glasgow Sri Lankan dancers. In addition the soundtrack (facilitated by musician/composer Nathan Portlock another workshop leader on FFL Winter trip) merged sounds/music from Sri Lanka with new sounds created by the Glasgow Sri Lankan community.
HOPE-Portraits Sri Lanka (Trincomalee/Batticaloa/Glasgow) included contemporary images of Sri Lankans from Alison George (FFL trip Winter 2010) and Valerie Evans (Glasgow 2010) alongside old family pictures from the Glasgow based community.
New Moves is a 12 minute documentary charting the important work of FFL in Sri Lanka in the Winter 2010, it premiered at the Glasgow Film Theatre in June 2010 in addition to having film screenings at the Glasgow Media Access Centre. Directed by Alison George, Produced by Kate E. Deeming.
